ESGmark® Completes 2024 Carbon Footprint Assessment
ESGmark® Completes 2024 Carbon Footprint Assessment
July 2025
In 2024, ESGmark® completed its first corporate carbon footprint assessment to better understand and manage our environmental impact. The assessment was carried out in line with the widely recognised GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, the global benchmark for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions. This exercise was a crucial step toward embedding environmental responsibility into the way we operate. By quantifying our carbon footprint, we gain transparency over the emissions linked to our business model, enabling us to make informed decisions, identify areas for improvement, and demonstrate accountability to our community, partners, and clients. As climate expectations rise for companies of all sizes, this baseline provides the foundation for ESGmark® to track progress, set meaningful sustainability goals, and act in line with our values.
Our Scope and Approach
As a fully remote, service-based company with no physical office or manufactured products, our emissions are limited to indirect Scope 3 sources. Specifically, the 2024 assessment focused on the energy used by our team while working from home—classified under Category 7 (Employee Commuting) of the GHG Protocol, which includes teleworking emissions.
To carry out the analysis, ESGmark® developed a structured approach aligned with industry best practices for measuring work-from-home (WFH) emissions. We collected primary data through a standardised survey completed by each team member, which covered energy-related factors such as electricity use, heating, lighting, and workstation equipment. Carbon emissions were calculated using UK emissions factors to translate reported electricity use into carbon dioxide equivalents (CO₂e).
The results below present ESGmark®’s total market-based carbon footprint from remote working in 2024, totalling 0.58 tonnes of CO₂e across the company and 0.27 tonnes CO₂e per full-time equivalent (FTE). An internal benchmarking exercise indicates that our emissions per FTE are at the lower end of the industry standard range. This data gives us an important baseline and will guide our efforts to further reduce our impact through smarter work practices and encouraging increased use of renewable energy within the team where possible.
Balancing Our Impact
As part of our commitment to climate action, we partnered with Creating Tomorrow’s Forests – an ESGmark® Certified member since 2021 - at the end of the year to offset 12 tonnes of CO₂ by planting 50 trees in Dorset, UK. This initiative not only more than offsets our measured carbon footprint but also supports biodiversity and contributes to nature restoration efforts in the UK.
This exercise marks an important step in ESGmark®’s sustainability journey, particularly as we grow. We’re committed to building on this work year after year—measuring our impact, taking action, and contributing to a more sustainable future.
