Udiri Jewellery: Something Different With a Special Story
Udiri Jewellery: Something Different With a Special Story
May 2026
It sometimes feels hard to find distinctive handcrafted jewellery that stands out. As someone who likes to keep my look interesting with different earrings and bracelets, it is baffling that so many online stores sell what appear to be standard, almost identical designs at wildly different price points.
So it is always exciting to discover a new brand that offers something different, and even better has proven sustainability credentials and is making a real positive impact in displaced and refugee communities.
Stylish, understated but eye-catching is how I would describe Udiri’s designs. The ‘thorns’ on the chain of my gold brass bracelet are a striking offset to the delicate hand rolled turquoise paper beads, which despite being made from paper seem very durable. The bracelet is extremely light and it falls delicately on my wrist. It really is a beautiful handcrafted piece, which genuinely looks original and high quality.

Everything about the Udiri consumer experience is carefully considered. The packaging is fully recyclable and the insert holding my bracelet and gift card is plantable, so I am excited to see what grows! Also inside is a small card from the talented artisan who crafted the piece, adding a personal touch. The whole ethos of the brand is sustainability focused with circularity at its heart, with the materials used to make the pieces and packaging all reclaimed and upcycled, or recyclable.
The Udiri’s story is a special one. Founded in Lagos, Nigeria by the delightful Anthony Nsofor, Udiri is dedicated to transforming lives through sustainable craftsmanship. Udiri partners with artisans, many of whom are women from internally displaced and refugee communities. Udiri offers them a chance to rebuild their lives through employment and creativity. My bracelet was created by Shuri, a Cameroonian Refugee living in Nigeria. Udiri became ESGmark® certified in 2024.
As well as women's jewellery, Udiri's collection includes bags and men's accessories. It is a lovely feeling to wear a beautiful piece of jewellery which reflects the principles of sustainable craftsmanship and has a genuine positive social impact.
